2008/2009 Season

Threesomes Season

Many wonderful things come in threes: Three Little Pigs, Three Bears, Three Musketeers, and, of course, the three Stooges: Larry, Curly and Moe. There are the three major food groups (chocolate, fudge, and caramel) and genies always grant three wishes. Three, in short, is good company, and this season, Lulu iwass proud to present our own wonderful throng of threesomes that we know every Tom, Dick and Harry (or Sue, Jane, and Tina) will enjoy!

On Thursday, January 15th, 8pm (pre-concert artists chat at 7:15) Lulu presented Trio Voce with Jasmine Lin, violin; Marina Hoover, cello; and Patricia Tao, piano. All seasoned soloists in their own right; together, their individual panache combines with a depth of spirited camaraderie that lends fresh interpretations to beloved classics, and a thoughtful exuberance to works by living composers. Program will include Brahms, Rachmaninoff, Tower, and Piazzolla.

Saturday, March 7th, 8pm Lulu presented Trio Gabriola! featuring Elizabeth Lutz, soprano with Leah Hokanson, piano; and special guests Corbin Keep, cello; and Deborah Vitek, oboe. Lulu is pleased to feature our very own amazing soprano, Elizabeth Lutz, in a threesome “mixer” with many of Gabriola’s finest classical musicians. Elizabeth’s voice brings a rare power and lyricism to classical repertoire ranging from opera arias to lieder and art song to contemporary works. Program will include Schubert, Schumann, and Villa Lobos.

Then on Friday, April 17th, 8pm (pre-concert artists chat beginning at 7:15) Lulu presented Joe Trio with Allen Stiles, piano; Cameron Wilson, violin; and Charles Inkman, cello. Joe Trio is a versatile, charming, and extraordinarily talented threesome shamelessly setting the classical scene on its ear, with repertoire that encompasses mainstream and contemporary works, to their own off-the-wall renditions of popular, jazz and rock tunes. Program will include Elgar, Smetana, Dizzy Gillespie and Led Zeppelin.
